Ski Club

Bathgate Ski Club

Founded in 1977, by a group of snowsports enthusiasts the club were formally based within Bathgate Community Centre in Marjoribanks Street. Ski trips to Glenshee and Aviemore were planned throughout the winter months. Due to the popularity of the sport several clubs emerged within West Lothian but sadly today only Bathgate Ski Club exists. Throughout the years the club have built up an extensive range of skiing equipment for hire for both young and old.

Membership of the club grew and so members decided to obtain certified qualifications in the sport thus enabling us to teach beginners rather than hire instructors. We have, over the years, taught over 1000 people to ski, either on artificial slopes or in the Scottish mountains.   For the past 15 years we have run junior skiing lessons, through using the facilities at Hillend in Edinburgh and Polmont near Grangemouth.  The club, for the past 6 years has developed a ski programme for pupils in primary 6/7. For those pupils who have participated in our programmes the opportunity to carry on their skiing is supported by the club. We also run trips to the snow Zone in Braehead. These programs are subsidised to ensure local primary school children can afford  to participate in the sport.

Our membership are active in promoting the club, participating in the Bathgate procession day, news articles in the West Lothian Courier, talks to local groups, stalls at fete’s and through using social media sites as well as on our web page.

We have not limited our skiing to the Scottish mountains in fact we have been travelling to European destinations for the past 35 years. If you wish information on foreign travel opportunities, telephone the Chairman details on the web page or come along to our club evenings held on a Friday evening from 7.30 to 8.30pm in the months of January February and March at our club in Kirkton Bowling club.

Our club is affiliated to the governing body Snowsport Scotland where members can obtain many benefits including public liability insurance and 10% off lift passes at all Scottish resorts. We also have teamed up with local outdoor businesses who offer discount to our members.

We have been active with the Twinning Association of Bathgate and have formed strong links with our friends in Cran Gevrier in France.

We are a constituted club, and accredited to West Lothian Council Leisure also affiliated to West Lothian Council Sports and Recreation Association. Our members involved in training have undergone child protection training and currently disclosed through Disclosure Scotland.

We have a new base at Kirkton Bowling Club Edinburgh Road Bathgate.
