Suggestions from people supporting the idea of a Community Development Trust

Our feedback questionnaire on the interest in a CDT for Murieston revealed the following suggestions:

  • Extending Murieston Trail to Cobbinshaw Reservoir
  • Improve facilities at Campbridge Pond
  • Maintain and support Murieston and Linhouse Trails
  • Fencing to separate playpark from the rest of the field at Robin’s Lane, plus additonal seating
  • Inclusive community events – summer / Christmas and projects for children during school holidays
  • Play park in Bankton Park East. Some kind of sports facility. Community cafe for meets and clubs
  • Development of a larger community base centre – the local Village Hall is useful but too small.
  • Additional meeting and activity space/cafe at Village Hall
  • Community cafe, outdoor exercise equipment and seating along Murieston Trail
  • To encourage us to keep using the walks, and maybe provide some socialising, I suggest the Trust consider setting up ‘way stations’ consisting of a small shelter with seats, where folks can take a break on walk or simply sit and chat.
  • A community garden project would be a wonderful opportunity for locals to meet and contribute.
  • How about something like a car boot sale? Can include bake sale etc. Also fun run, fete etc?
  • Tidy up of Murieston woods on the banks of Murieston Water near Easter Bankton.
  • I would back the community garden to start with and any projects which support the elderly and/or young members of our community.
  • Community garden and café
  • I would like to see a community cafe, perhaps using the Social Bite model – that would provide work to those who have found work difficult to access. If the Development Trust could access funding through the Windfarms, then that cost could provide start up costs for the community cafe. It would be a not for profit social enterprise. It would be managed by a management team of representatives from the community. It could provide a congregational hub for the people of Murieston – from our elderly to parents of young children.
  • Refurbishment of the Murieston Village Hall and development of it as a venue for a range of community events (beyond the excellent programme already in place)
  • Creation of a community hub at Livingston Cricket Club through the creation of additional meeting rooms and a community café.
  • Cafe and an enclosed and secure off the lead Dog area to encourage people to walk their dogs on the lead then having a designated area for off lead play.
  • Murieston Village Hall, it could do with the funding to develop the Hall as it is used by so many user groups like Simply Play, 50+, Rainbows and much more. It is also used for meetings l think revamping it would be so good for the community bringing so much more business it’s way.”
