The Neighbourhood Watch Alert messaging system provides key, trusted and targeted information to communities about safety and crime and how they can, and do, make communities more resilient as well as highlight some of the work they are currently engaged in with partners.
This system allows users to receive alerts from Neighbourhood Watch and Police Scotland. The idea being that if there has been a recent crime trend, then officers from Police Scotland can send an alert to all users who may be effected or who may have an interest in the crime.
The alert would normally be received by means of an email, however in urgent situations it can be sent by text message and / or voice message. The scheme has numerous uses but from a police point of view it can be used to alert the public about:
- Crime Trends – recent crimes that have occurred in their area, housebreakings etc.
- Missing Persons – Details of High Risk missing persons can be broadcast to specific areas.
There are current around 1400 people in West Lothian signed up for the alerts, and we encourage residents in our community to sign up.
Sign up is simple and takes less than 5 minute, the link to the sign up page is https://www.neighbourhoodwatchscotland.co.uk/
It’s free, it’s trusted and is a great way of alerting our communities about events, issues and just keeping everyone connected.
The key to the Neighbourhood Watch Alert system being a success is YOU, we need the public to register online; the more people who register the better.
