West Lothian Older People’s Needs Assessment and Mental Health Needs Assessment

The following message is from Andy Perkins

Figure 8 Consultancy Services Ltd

“You should be aware from earlier emails that Figure 8 Consultancy Services Ltd. has been commissioned to conduct an Older People and a Mental Health Needs Assessment on behalf of West Lothian HSCP.

We will be seeking to engage with as many stakeholders as possible, across both the Older People and Mental Health sectors and the project will conclude with the development of two separate Need Assessment reports. This email is being sent jointly as there are a number of stakeholders who work with both demographics. However, once we start arranging the fieldwork for the project there will be an identified lead researcher/consultant from the company for each project:

The lead for the Older People’s fieldwork will be Allan Johnston and the lead for the Mental Health fieldwork will be David McCue. Donna Nicholas and Simon Little will be supporting Allan and David, and all four are copied into this email so that you can see their email addresses in case you need to contact them directly.

We will be sending a number of emails out over the coming days to ask for help with collating data, distributing surveys and setting up interviews and focus groups, so please do take note of any further emails that we send.

To start with I would like to make you aware of two half-day stakeholder events (one for the older people’s sector and one for the mental health sector), which will be held on:

Friday 6th May at Space 3, Howden Park Centre, Livingston, West Lothian EH54 6AE

  • The Older People’s Stakeholder Event will take place in the morning between 10am-12.30pm; and
  • The Mental Health Stakeholder Event will take place in the afternoon between 2pm-4.30pm.

There is an open invitation to these stakeholder events and we hope to attract a broad range of stakeholders. The events will give an overview of the Need Assessment projects and will allow all participants to share their views on the key issues and themes that the project will need to take account of.

I would be grateful if you would advertise these events as widely as possible through your service/organisation (both staff and service users), and to any other interested parties.

To book a place at one or both of the stakeholder events please send an email to enquiries@f8c.co.uk giving details of who will be attending which event. Alternatively, please call our office on (01382) 224846 and leave your name and contact details.

Additionally, we are seeking to recruit a smaller group of professional stakeholders to take part in one of two short life working groups (one focused on Older People and one focused on Mental Health). The purpose of these working groups is to explore in greater detail the issues raised through the Stakeholder Event and to feed into the key findings of the Need Assessment reports. We will be trying to select a good cross section of strategic and operational staff in the relevant areas to participate in the working groups (including managers, frontline staff and other key stakeholders).

If you are interested in being involved in one of the working groups, then please contact me at the email address/phone number above to let me know. Again, please advertise this opportunity for involvement as widely as you can across your service/organisation. When considering whether to volunteer for inclusion as part of one of the working groups please note you will need to commit to the given dates/times that have been set:

The Older People’s Working Group will meet on:

  • Wednesday 18th May (10am-12noon) in the multi-purpose room at Rosemount Gardens, Mid Street, Bathgate; and
  • Friday 3rd June (10am-12noon) in Room 2S2 at the Civic Centre.

The Mental Health Working Group will meet on:

  • Wednesday 18th May (2pm-4pm) in the multi-purpose room at Rosemount Gardens, Mid Street, Bathgate; and
  • Friday 3rd June (2pm-4pm) in Room 2S2 at the Civic Centre.

For your information I have attached two ‘Research Information Sheets’ (one for each project) which gives further details of each study. If you have any queries relating to either Needs Assessment, please do not hesitate to contact me (contact details below). Alternatively, you can direct questions to the commissioners of the study:
